Dr. Laurian Bowles of Western Illinois University will be speaking at 4:30 on Thursday, 24 January in Chambers 1027. Her talk is entitled:
Anthropology’s Publics and Public Anthropology: Collaborative Fieldwork with Porters in Ghana.
In this presentation, Dr. Bowles focuses on the politics of fieldwork at Makola Market, the largest shopping area for Accra, Ghana. Drawing on collaborative research with head porters, Dr. Bowles discusses photography as a research method in public spaces, the hierarchies of women’s labor in Ghana, as well as the role anthropologists play in revealing nuances about life that are often hidden from view.
