In my ten years of teaching about globalization, and searching for good examples to use in class, I’ve finally found one that is clearly globalization at work, but I can’t really explain. For those of you who were not in college during the 1980s, there was this Norwegian group that had one song that really took off: A-Ha’s “Take On Me” (I keep remembering it as Take Me On, maybe it’s my English). It was a great video, a la Roger Rabbit (blurring the lines between animation and video).
25 years later, here’s a cover of Take On Me – this time by North Koreans on the accordion.
Update: Shanghaiist posted the backstory on this video.
