Two places in China are arguing with each other to be recognized as the prototype for the Hallelujah Mountains in Pandora, from the worldwide blockbuster film Avatar. On the one hand, James Cameron while in Beijing said that Mount Huang (one of China’s five “sacred mountains”) in Anhui inspired his vision of Pandora. However, another mountainous region (Zhangjiajie in Hunan) was extensively photographed by a Hollywood photographer, and that many of these photos were used to help create the images used in this film. Not only is Avatar beating down a Confucius resurgent in 21st century China, but now people in China are beating each other up to cash in on the possible tourist trade for Avatar-crazed fans.
