After a long night of karaoke, we started up bright and early again with the students teaching English classes here in the foreign languages department. But the sun came out, which warmed the hearts (and bodies) of the China team! The Chinese students particularly enjoyed Jessica Dixon’s leading of a cheer (see above picture) that the other Davidson students seemed to also be familiar with — if you look carefully at the board behind them in the picture above, you can see the words.
After lunch, we went to visit a “summer cloth” factory in the countryside, about a half-hour bus ride from Xinyu City; the cloth is made from a hemp that they collect from the fields, and then hand-work into fibers that are weaved into different cloths. Much of the summer cloth collected by this township enterprise (a classification of such factories, TVE — the heart of China’s economic growth) are made by individual households who bring their finished products to the factory. We then visited another factory that transformed this raw material into useable commodities — the students wanted to buy out the store! (Ask them when they get home). After our trip in the countryside, we went to dinner and then performed in our last English corner — as you can see in the pictures of Morgan and Idris below, it was their last night of stardom!
